Practices Areas
Big Trucks
If you have been injured in a semi-truck accident, there are many things that need to be done, but attempting to do them on your own will only make this painful situation much harder than it already is. We highly urge you to contact an attorney with your questions and concerns. This is a time in your life when legal representation is in your best interest.
Auto Accidents
An ordinary drive to school, work, or the grocery store can turn into a life-changing catastrophe in a split second. Before you entered that vehicle, you had no idea your life would be forever changed. Now, with medical bills mounting and time away from work leaving your family financially strained, you’re not sure where to turn for help.
Offshore Injuries
The oil and gas refinery business in Louisiana boasts some of the highest paid jobs in the region during hiring seasons. It’s no wonder these jobs are sought after by entry level and skilled offshore workers. The work carries the reputation of leading to increased earnings over time, as the liquefied natural gas industry continues to flourish, thanks to Louisiana’s ample natural reserves.

Product Liability
When you purchase goods in the market place, you trust that certain safety standards have been met. Unfortunately, this is not always the case with many goods that go home with Louisiana consumers each year. These types of cases are known as “product liability” cases, and are among the hardest and most expensive to win. If you have been injured by a defective product you absolutely need an experienced lawyer. Miles Matt and Jason Matt with the Law Offices of Matt & Allen both have bachelor degrees in mechanical engineering, which is particularly useful in product liability cases. They each have an extensive education and experience in designing and manufacturing products.
Other Accidents
There’s no way to predict an accident. Even the most prepared people can fall victim to faulty equipment or a distracted driver. You should not have to bear the weight of the financial burden while you’re trying to recover. If you have questions about your rights and you’re seeking justice for an injury that came from someone else’s negligence, you’ve come to the right place.
BUSINESS LITIGATION
The Lafayette Business Consulting and Litigation attorneys at the Law Office of Matt & Allen are trained and experienced to assist you in the operation of your company. We can assist you in forming a limited liability company, a partnership or a traditional corporation. We can help prepare or tailor common business contracts and provide ancillary legal services.
INVESTMENT LOSS
Federal Law protects investors from illegal investment activities taken by your investment broker/dealer. Complaints may be made to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”) that oversees U.S. broker/dealers. If you have been the victim of a Broker/Dealer violation call the law offices of Matt & Allen as soon as possible.
WHISTLE BLOWER
The False Claims Act (“FCA”) is America’s first real whistleblower law. Under these provisions whistleblowers can recover up to 30% of the amounts awarded in successful cases.

How Can We Help You?
We have handled thousands of injury cases from head to toe. When you hire us, all you will need to worry about is following your doctor’s orders and working towards healing. We will handle the rest. And, we feel confident that at the end of your case you will be satisfied and we will have recovered fair compensation for your losses, whether it is for payment of past and future medical bills, lost wages, decreased future earnings, mental anguish and pain and suffering.
We are here to help from the very beginning. We can help you obtain a rental vehicle while your car is disabled. We can help you obtain vehicle repairs or payment for a totaled vehicle. We will help you decide on the best doctor for your particular needs. And, we will either negotiate for the doctor to be paid at the end of your case, or in some cases we will advance the funds so that you can obtain medical treatment for your injuries.
You will not need to pay us anything until the end of your case and any attorney fees or expense reimbursements will come out of the funds we recover from the at fault persons.

What types of compensation can I seek in my claim and when will I know if I need a lawyer?
Generally, the categories of damages under Louisiana injury law are:
- Past and future physical pain and suffering
- Past and future mental anguish and distress
- Past and future medical expenses
- Past and future lost wages
- Loss of future earning capacity
- Loss of enjoyment of life
- Reimbursement of household services
- And possibly others
If you are the least bit unsure of any of the issues involved in your case or do not understand the process completely, chances are you need a lawyer to pursue your case. If you have significant injuries or damages, you need an attorney to help pursue your case.
Insurance companies are in the business of minimizing and eliminating valid claims. Most insurance policies require the insured to cooperate with his or her insurance company to investigate a claim. Generally, you are not required to talk directly to your insurance company and give a statement, recorded or otherwise, about the accident. What it generally means is that you have to timely notify your insurance company of an accident and potential claims and provide certain basic details. You can do this through a third-party, such as an attorney.
You should not give a statement about the accident to an insurance company or claims adjuster before you obtain experienced legal advice. You should contact an experienced attorney before you give a statement to anyone concerning an accident.
Insurance companies have developed a multitude of methods and processes to eliminate your valid claim. One way is to advise a claimant that the information provided is insufficient to support adequate proof of loss for the claims or damages being made. Documentation of certain items, such as future medical expenses, can be very difficult and expensive to obtain. Evidence supporting loss of earning capacity can be very difficult to develop, understand, and present to a judge or jury. If you want to give yourself the best chance to maximize the value of your claim, you should contact an experienced attorney as soon as possible to give the attorney time to obtain important information, which may be lost through the passage of time.
The attorneys at the Law Offices of Matt & Allen have over forty years of combined legal experience. They work hard so that their clients get the compensation that they deserve. Contact the Law Offices of Matt & Allen for more information.
How do I pursue my claim and how long will it take?
Generally, the process involves investigation into liability and damages. Claims can be both legally and factually complex. A simple automobile accident can be complicated by several eye witnesses with different versions of how each thought the accident occurred. Courts in different jurisdictions may have applied the laws differently to similar factual settings, resulting in conflicting decisions. Your lawyer will investigate the facts of your case and advise you as to what the liability picture looks like. Your damages may not be completely known until you have finished all of your medical treatment and had some time to reflect on the residual effects of any disability, pain or mental anguish you may continue to suffer.
The effects on your ability to earn wages may take additional time to calculate. Once your damages are known, your attorney should be able to make a recommendation on the value of your claim. Your claim is then in a position to attempt to negotiate a settlement. If a settlement is reached, the other side usually has a limited amount of time to fund the settlement absent extenuating circumstances. If the parties are unable to reach a settlement, a lawsuit is filed. The time it takes for a lawsuit to resolve can vary widely depending on the parties and complexity of the issues involved. In most cases under Louisiana law, the plaintiff has one year from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit. From our experience, most cases settle within thirty to sixty (30-60) days from the date treatment has ended. Lawsuits usually take from ten (10) months to several years to conclude. This is why many cases settle before a lawsuit is filed.
