While a New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration is quite spectacular, Louisiana in general knows how to celebrate this special day. From Lafayette to Baton Rouge, the whole state is celebrating this day of gold, green, and purple. Of all places in Cajun County, Lafayette is known for its family friendly Carnival and Mardi Gras celebrations.

Being a law office in Lafayette, we do our best to stay involved in the community. One way we do this is by knowing how the city is celebrating Mardi Gras 2015. Below are some things you should know about Mardi Gras and Carnival season in Lafayette, Louisiana.

What is a krewe?

A krewe is a special group that is organized specifically for the Mardi Gras event. Some of these clubs are all children, all men, all women, or mixed gender. All of them promote camaraderie and friendship leading up to the grand event that is Mardi Gras. A well-known krewe in Lafayette is the Krewe of Triton. What parade should I attend?

Because of the amount of krewes in Lafayette, there are also a myriad of parades to attend. There are over ten parades on the day of Mardi Gras alone. Some parades are more catered toward children, but all are family friendly and can provide entertainment for all. There is a children’s parade on February 14 in downtown Lafayette. Your kids can wear costumes and ride in this afternoon event.

When do the celebrations start?

The celebrations have been going on since the beginning of January and they will continue until after February 17. Most major events will happen a few days before and on Tuesday.
