A recent article in The Times-Picayune has covered the tragic death of Kolby Lorio, whose father is pursuing a wrongful death suit. Attorney Miles A. Matt of our firm is representing him.

Lorio died in a car accident that occurred almost 15 months ago. He was riding in the back of a pickup truck when he fell out, later passing away in Interim LSU Hospital from the injuries he sustained. Police investigated the accident but were unable to find the driver, citing uncooperative witnesses and little evidence to follow. The case went cold.

Now, the Lorio family may finally get justice.

During our investigation of the case, we subpoenaed several witnesses to the crime, including Lorio’s girlfriend, Whitney Borruano. These witnesses confirmed that they saw Brady Hotard driving the truck that Lorio was riding in.

A week after we filed a wrongful death suit, police issued an arrest warrant for Hotard. He has since turned himself in and faces charges of hit-and-run driving causing death or serious injury. This charge comes with a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Our firm is glad that information from the civil suit has helped to spur action on the Lorio case. The suit has been, more than anything, a way for Lance Lorio to find out what happened to his son.

We’re proud to represent Lance Lorio and to support him during this difficult time. He is understandably devastated by the death of Kolby and deserves to achieve some measure of closure. We hope that the criminal case against Hotard will result in justice for Kolby Lorio, and we will do all that we can to ensure that the civil case results in a fair outcome.
